Kickoff!

In a few hours, Robbie Williams, Placido Domingo, Will Smith and Nicky Jam will put down their microphones, and it will  be time for kickoff.  The opening match of Russia vs Saudi Arabia offers the hosts an excellent chance to start the tournament on a high note since the Saudi's have the lowest ranked team in the tournament.  The stakes couldn't be higher for Arlan and Andrew who will see half of their BISERGS representatives in action on the first night.  James, Doug and Annika will be sweating under their ushanka hats as they hope for a victory and plenty of goals to start their BISERGS campaigns.  The two oldest Glenney brothers will be cheering for a Green Falcons upset to give them a huge boost.  

In some huge World Cup news, Spain decided to fire its coach just two days before their huge clash with Iberian rivals, Portugal.  In what sounds more like a soap opera than football news, outgoing coach Julen Lopetegui lost his job after his current employer (the Spanish Football Association) found out that he had struck a deal to become the next coach of Real Madrid following the World Cup.  It looks like he gets to start his new job a month earlier than planned.  Since six of the players on the national team also play for Real Madrid while 9 play for rivals Athletico Madrid and Barcelona, the locker room dynamics could be interesting for the new coach to manage.  I'm sure Dawn, DJ, Rachel, Vera and Ivan will be watching these developments with great interest.

The website will be adding a new scoreboard page that will show the current scores of all BISERGSers and a sidebar which will display the current top 10.  The extremely complicated BISERGS calculator (I don't remember it taking this long to build it last time) will be finished by the final whistle and accurate scores will be displayed for the next month.
