Day 3 Recap

Rachel and the Rutzes rose to the top on day three of the BISERGS but it is Rick and his son Evan that seem perfectly poised to make a move as they are just of the pace but have only put two teams on the pitch so far.  Kelley has made an impressive debut in the BISERGS with her first three teams yielding an impressive 7 points.  Annika and Doug are still a big threat as they remain in the top 10 even though they've only had one match.

Not the picture of Lionel Messi that Argentina's owners
wanted to see.
In the opening match of day 3, France failed to impress but still squeaked out a 2 -1 victory over Australia.  Australian fans would be forgiven if they wished we were still living in the pre-technology world.  Twice they were burned by modern advances.  First, a video replay awarded France a penalty that had been missed by the referee in real time and then Paul Pogba's goal that bounced off the cross bar and across the line by about a centimeter could easily have not been given without the aid of goal line technology.  Argentina and Iceland played an entertaining match that ended in a draw.  Iceland continues to show that they aren't afraid of the giants of world football that come across their paths, but those giants are appearing increasingly frightened of tiny Iceland as time goes by.  In a shocking contrast to Cristiano Ronaldo's heroics the night before, Lionel Messi was left dejected after missing a second half penalty that would have delivered all three points.  The third game saw Peru rewarded a penalty through instant replay and they missed a penalty of their own.  After Cueva blasted his spot kick way (way, way) over the bar, Denmark made them pay dearly when Poulson finished calmly on the hour mark.  Peru are unluckiest losers of the first round so far.  They played with energy and style throughout but were unable to beat Denmark's goalkeeper.  Both teams entered the game with a 15 match unbeaten streak, but the South Americans saw their amazing run of form which included matches against Brazil and Argentina come to an end.  The French won't be looking forward to playing either of these teams in the final two rounds.  Croatia sits on top of group D after they delivered a 2-0 win for their BISERGS owners.  Luca Modric looked dangerous throughout but the Nigerians looked disorganized and unready for this competition.
